| Résumé | Fr. Ang. Après plus de 30 ans, un groupe d'israéliens revient sur la terre de leurs ancêtres, où ils sont nés. This documentary which was filmed in Marroco by Jacob Saporta, one of the very best TV cameramen in Israel, is about a group of Israelis who after 30 years or more return to Marroco, the land where they were born and the country which hosted their ancestors for thousands of years. The group members travel across Marroco, find the houses in which they were born practicaly unchanged, and meet the marrocan people who live there today - in the same traditional way as thought the time had stood still. The journey takes the viewers to remote and isolated villages in the depth of the high Atlas mountains, the edge of the Sahara desert, and the ancient Jewish quarters inside the cities. The encounters with the chilhood places, the neglected graveyards and the abandoned graveyards and the abandoned Jewish synagogues are very moving and there are moments when the group members bite their lower lip to avoid bursting in tears. In one of the most moving parts of this documentry the group members who promised their families in Israel to visit the graves of the granparents travel enormous distances to old Jewish cemeteries but face only swept away graves and scattered tombstones. Beside the encounters with their own past and the past Jewish life, the group members experience during the trip warm meetings with the local native Marrocan people who still remember and misse the Jewish neighbors who had peacefully lived amongst them and had been part of the everyday life for thousand of years. Another interesting aspect of this special documentary ist the wonderful variety of marrocan landscapes from mountains and deserts to historical cities. It also reveals beautiful and exotic local tribal marriage festivals which are really fascinating. |
