Résumé	En 1933, les nazis sont arrivés au pouvoir. En tant que juif, Erich a rapidement cessé de recevoir des commandes et a été exclu du syndicat des architectes. Avant qu'il ne soit trop tard, il s'est enfui à Londres. Arrivé à la gare de Victoria, il sortit un crayon et dit à un ami : "Regarde, j'ai apporté mon bureau avec moi !" A Londres, il rencontre Chaim Weitzman, le futur président d'Israël, qui lui propose de devenir "l'architecte national" du futur Etat juif. En 1937, il s'installe à Jérusalem où il rencontre nombre de ses collègues et clients du Bauhaus de Berlin. En 1941, alors que l'armée allemande dirigée par Rommel était sur le point d'entrer en Egypte, Louise et Erich s'enfuirent à nouveau, cette fois aux Etats-Unis. Son ami de longue date, Frank Lloyd Wright, l'a aidé à organiser une exposition de ses œuvres au MOMA à New York. Mais le jour de l'ouverture, le Japon a attaqué Pearl Harbor, et une tragédie nationale a préfiguré sa tentative de lancer une nouvelle carrière. In 1933 the Nazis came to power. As a Jew, Erich rapidly stopped getting commissions and was excluded from the architects union. Before it was too late, he fled to London. Arriving at Victoria train station, he pulled a pencil and said to a friend: "Look, I brought my office with me!" In London he met Chaim Weitzman, the future president of Israel, who offered him to become the "national architect" of the Jewish-state-to-be. He moved his office to Jerusalem in 1937 where he met many of his Bauhaus colleagues and clients from Berlin. In 1941, when the German army led by Rommel was on the verge of crossing into Egypt, Louise and Erich fled again, this time to the US. His long time friend, Frank Lloyd Wright, helped him to arrange an exhibition of his works at the MOMA in New York. But on the day of the opening, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, and a national tragedy foreshadowed his attempt to launch a new career.
