Résumé	Esther Nisenthal avait 15 ans en octobre 1942 lorsque les Juifs de son petit village en Pologne ont reçu l'ordre des nazis de se rendre à une gare voisine. Tous ceux qui resteraient seraient abattus. Esther refusa d'y aller, suppliant ses parents de lui donner le nom de "quelqu'un, un Gentil, n'importe qui" qui l'accepterait. Entendant le nom "Stefan", elle se prépare à partir. Embrassant sa famille, elle part avec sa sœur Mania, 13 ans, pour ne plus jamais revoir ses autres êtres chers. Refoulée par Stefan, Esther invente de nouvelles identités pour elle-même et Mania alors qu'elles se cachaient des Nazis. Aujourd'hui elle est devenue une agricultrice catholique polonaise. Pour illustrer son histoire elle réalise des ouvrages en broderie qui deviennent des tableaux. Anyone remaining would be shot. Esther refused to go, begging her parents for the name of “someone, a Gentile, anyone” who would take her in. Hearing the name “Stefan” she prepares to leave. Kissing her family goodbye she departs with her 13 year-old sister Mania, never to see her other loved ones again. Turned away by Stefan, Esther invents new identities for herself and Mania — now Polish Catholic farm girls–as they hide in plain sight from the Nazis.
