Résumé	1944, la Palestine est sous mandat britannique. Maya, une adolescente de 13 ans arrive dans un orphelinat de Tel Aviv. Sa mère l'a abandonnée et son père s'est remarié. Le directeur de l'orphelinat est surpris de son arrivée dans cet orphelinat et se souvient de son amour pour la mère de Maya. Maya a du mal à s'adapter à la vie de l'orphelinat et tombe amoureuse d'un membre de la résistance. 1944. Palestine is under British Mandate as the Second World War rages. 13-year-old Maya arrives at an orphanage on the outskirts of Tel Aviv, her mother having deserted her and her father having remarried and finding it difficult to raise her. Dr. Markowski, the orphanage director, is stunned by her arrival; he knows her parents and is reminded of his tormented love for her mother. Maya does not easily adjust to life at the orphanage, having to fight for her place among the girls and falling in love with a 25-year-old resistance fighter engaged to one of the orphanage workers, all while attempting to piece together the puzzle of her life.
