Résumé	Au début du XXe siècle, le philanthrope Julius Rosenwald s'est associé à Booker T. Washington pour construire 5 300 écoles pour les communautés afro-américaines rurales du Sud à une époque où peu d'Afro-américains recevaient une éducation publique. Né à Springfield, Illinois, Rosenwald était le fils d'immigrants juifs allemands qui est devenus l'un des hommes les plus riches en Amérique à la tête de Sears Roebuck and Company. Influencé par l'évangile de la réforme sociale adopté par le rabbin Emil Hirsch de la Congrégation du Sinaï de Chicago, Rosenwald a utilisé sa grande richesse et son talent pour le leadership alors qu'il essayait de réparer ce qu'il considérait être un problème pour la société, vivant véritablement les idéaux du tikkun olam, réparant le monde. Early in the 20th Century, philanthropist Julius Rosenwald partnered with Booker T. Washington to build 5,300 schools for rural African American communities in the South at a time when few African Americans received any public education. Born in Springfield, Illinois, Rosenwald was the son of German Jewish immigrants who rose to become one of the wealthiest men in America as the head of Sears Roebuck and Company. Influenced by the social reform gospel espoused by Rabbi Emil Hirsch of Chicago's Sinai Congregation, Rosenwald used his great wealth and talent for leadership as he tried to fix what he viewed was wrong with the society, truly living the ideals of tikkun olam, repairing the world.
