Against all odds, a cosmopolitan Viennese playwright and journalist becomes the father of modern political Zionism in IT IS NO DREAM: THE LIFE OF THEODOR HERZL, the latest finely crafted and meticulously researched production of Oscar-winning Moriah Films. Born in Budapest to an assimilated family, Theodor Herzl had little connection to his Jewish heritage until, working as a newspaper reporter in Paris, he witnessed firsthand, virulent anti-Semitism in the wake of the infamous Dreyfus affair. Advocating for and protecting Jews soon became an obsession, as a radicalized Herzl meets with European political and religious leaders in a prophetic and often uphill movement to build a Jewish homeland long before the Holocaust could even be imagined. Director Richard Trank (Winston Churchill: Walking with Destiny) expertly marries vintage photos, newsreels, historical documents and scholarly interviews with the stately narration of Oscar-winning actors Sir Ben Kingsley and Christoph Waltz to form a compelling profile of one of the most significant figures in modern Jewish history. |
