Filmé sur place à Thessalonique (comme on appelle aujourd'hui Salonique) et au camp de concentration d'Auschwitz, le documentaire examine les facteurs qui ont contribué à la disparition d'une communauté juive qui avait prospéré pendant mille ans. According to the records of the Greek government, 56,500 Jewish citizens lived in the city of Salonika on the eve of the Holocaust. By December 1944 only three remained. This is their story–and by extension–it is the story of the Jews of Greece. Filmed on location in Thessaloniki (as Salonika is now known) and at the Auschwitz concentration camp, the documentary examines factors contributing to the demise of a Jewish community that had thrived for a thousand years.
