Trente ans dans la fabrication, ce documentaire tisse une série d'entretiens de réflexion avec la famille Handwerker, leurs amis et d'anciens employés de Nathan, en utilisant des films, des photos, des animations, des images d'archives familiaux et des enregistrements audio inédits de Nathan. A hit at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival, Famous Nathan is an emotional, larger-than-life and sometimes hilarious story about family, intergenerational struggles, labour and delicious food. Filmmaker Lloyd Handwerker chronicles the history of his grandfather’s iconic Brooklyn eatery, Nathan’s Famous. Poor Jewish immigrant Nathan Handwerker came to New York in 1912, and by the 1930s had established this legendary Coney Island institution. Thirty years in the making, this documentary weaves a series of reflective interviews with the Handwerker family, their friends and former Nathan’s employees, using family home movies and photos, animation, archival footage and never-before-heard audio recordings of Nathan.
