OUR OBJECTIVES
- to contribute to preserving Jewish Identity and memory - to identify and to collect films and documentaries attesting Jewish history and experience in the world - to share this heritage with all the public by organizing film events - to serve as a key connection for non-profit networks in organizing cultural events
DATA BASE
Since 1988, IMAJ identifies films in relation to Jewish life and history in its various aspects, and also genocides and crimes against humanity Currently, the IMAJ database is the most comprehensive database in French devoted to films with a Jewish theme. IMAJ bought Video Rights for a small part of these films.
WHO ARE THE TYPICAL USERS OF IMAJ ?
-Insiders or beginners, who want to learn more about Jewish culture and all those who love cinema and are curious to discover a universe, not well known, or too often reduced to stereotypes. -Students and professors who research this theme. -Teachers of primary and secondary schools that can apply to us to illustrate their courses using audiovisual support. -Audiovisual professionals, festival programmers, designers of exhibitions.
HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER OF IMAJ?
The annual fee is : €30 for individuals and €50 for associations; fees are paid on account 210-0535707-28 (communication : fee & email) Members can freely rent films for which IMAJ has Home-Video Rights; access all paper documents in relation to these films; access the library and benefit from reduced prices for some film projections . This can be done after an appointment by telephone ( 02 344 86 69 ) or by email at documentation@imaj.be We are a useful relay for anyone seeking specific audiovisual documents. Our Institute is open to any collaboration, exchange with other cultural or community associations.
HISTORY
It should be noted that, through its mechanisms of action and decision, I.M.A.J. has always ensured the respect of pluralism of opinion taking into account the various trends existing within the Jewish community of Belgium. This ensures opening, esteem and consideration.
I.M.A.J. has been recognized as a “ Centre labellisé“ by the department “Democracy or Barbarism” of the French Community of Belgium in 2010.
Since May 2010 Bernard Libertalis is the President of the Board of IMAJ . The Board is composed of Baron Georges Arthur Schnek as President d’honneur, Richard Kenigsman and Thierry Van Nerom as vice-presidents, Agnes Bensimon as tresorer, Luc Dardenne as Administrator and Béatrice Godlewicz as Director.
