| Résumé | Le film nous emmène de l'ambivalence et du déni américains à l'apogée du nazisme, à travers le silence des années d'après-guerre et jusqu'à nos jours. Il pose des questions difficiles: sur la relation difficile entre la culture populaire américaine et l'Holocauste, sur la responsabilité des cinéastes dans leur représentation de l'histoire et sur le pouvoir du film lui-même d'affecter la façon dont nous nous regardons. Intervenants: Gene Hackman, Steven Spielberg, Sidney Lumet, Rod Steiger, Branko Lustig, Annette Insdorf, Vincent Sherman The film takes us from the American ambivalence and denial during the heyday of Nazism, through the silence of the post-war years, and into the present day. It asks hard questions: about the uneasy relationship between American popular culture and the Holocaust, about the responsibility of filmmakers in their portrayal of history, and about the power of film itself to affect the way we look at ourselves. |
