Résumé	"Chaque famille a son sombre secret, dit la cinéaste norvégienne Benedicte Orvung, qui révèle son propre secret de famille dans ce film. Elle retourne à la Seconde Guerre mondiale, demandant à des témoins oculaires très âgés de raconter leur histoire. Le personnage central est le frère de son grand-père, Karl Marthinsen, qui pendant l'occupation allemande était le chef de la police d'Etat et a été appelé "l'homme le plus dangereux de Norvège". Il a ensuite été assassiné par le mouvement de résistance. Certains témoignages dans le film sont très poignants. La mère d'Orvung nous raconte comment elle jouait avec le revolver chargé de son oncle. Un survivant d'Auschwitz raconte qu'il avait tendance à considérer un groupe de Juifs hongrois nouvellement arrivés comme un simple chargement de bétail. Un ancien policier justifie son rôle dans l'exécution de 28 civils innocents, tués en représailles de l'assassinat de Marthinsen. Le témoignage silencieux est attesté par un document imbibé du sang séché de Marthinsen. Orvung montre son implication personnelle dans cette histoire en regardant des images de l'histoire de la Norvège pendant la guerre projetées sur un écran, puis réfléchies en gros plan dans ses yeux. À certains moments, elle affiche également des portraits sur un grand tableau, montrant les places occupées par les membres de sa famille dans cette histoire - et terminant avec sa propre photo. "Every family has its dark secret," says Norwegian filmmaker Benedicte Orvung, who reveals her own family secret in this film. She goes back to World War II, getting some very elderly eyewitnesses to tell their stories. The central character is her grandfather's brother, Karl Marthinsen, who during the German occupation was head of the State Police and was called "the most dangerous man in Norway." He was subsequently assassinated by the resistance movement. Some of the testimony in the film is very poignant. Orvung's mother tells us how she used to play with her uncle's loaded revolver. A survivor of Auschwitz relates how he was inclined to see a group of newly arrived Hungarian Jews simply as a consignment of cattle. A former policeman justifies his role in the execution of 28 innocent civilians, killed as retribution for the assassination of Marthinsen. Silent testimony is borne by a document soaked in Marthinsen's dried blood. Orvung shows her personal involvement with this history by sitting and watching images from the history of Norway in the war projected on a screen, and then reflected in extreme close-up in her eyes. At particular moments, she also sticks up portraits on a large board, showing the places occupied by members of her family in this history - and ending with her own picture.
