Résumé	Tourné en Russie, ce film de langue yiddish est basé sur un conte doux-amer par Sholem Aleichem. Habitant du misérable ghetto juif Shimmen-Eyle lésine et économise suffisamment pour acheter une chèvre pour fournir du lait pour ses enfants. Mais quand il arrive au village, il découvre qu'il a traîné à la maison un bouc. Le pauvre homme devient la risée du village en raison de son manque présumé de sens des affaires. Bientôt, cependant, il s'avère que Shimmen-Eyle est victime d'un farceur, et quand les villageois vient à savoir qui a commis le canular, ils donnent le plaisantin gai une bonne raclée. Une fin heureuse? Pas tout à fait: La police tsariste, ne fait pas attention à propos de la raison derrière toute l'affaire, et ordonne Shimmen-Eyle de partir hors du village pour incitation à l'émeute! Filmed in Russia, this Yiddish-language film is based on a bittersweet tale by Sholem Aleichem. Poverty-stricken Jewish ghetto dweller Shimmen-Eyle scrimps and saves enough to buy a female goat to provide milk for his children. But when he arrives back in the village, he discovers that he's dragged home a male goat. The poor man becomes the laughing stock of the village because of his presumed lack of business sense. Soon, however, it turns out that Shimmen-Eyle is the victim of a practical joker, and when the villagers find out who perpetrated the hoax, they give the jolly jokester a sound thrashing. A happy ending? Not quite: The Czarist police, caring nothing about the reason behind the whole affair, order Shimmen-Eyle out of the village for inciting a riot!
