Résumé	C'est l'histoire d'une enfant éthiopienne de dix ans, Banchiya, qui a immigré en Israël avec sa mère, ses trois frères et sœurs il y a sept ans. Son père est mort alors qu'ils étaient encore en Éthiopie et sa mère a été renversée par un camion en Israël. Ils ont été envoyés dans une institution pendant que leur mère était à l'hôpital. Avigail, qui faisait son service national dans cette institution à Netanya, rencontra Banchiya et commença bientôt à la ramener à Jérusalem pour Shabbat. Un semestre plus tard, la mère de Banchiya est morte et la famille d'Avigail a envisagé de l'adopter. Après une période d'essai et d'introspection, ils ont décidé qu'ils voulaient que Banchiya rejoigne la famille. Depuis six ans, Banchiya vit avec sa nouvelle famille dans le quartier juif de Jérusalem. Le film aborde certains des défis et des difficultés de la vie de Banchiya en tant que membre noir d'une communauté juive blanche et orthodoxe et en tant que seul enfant adopté dans une famille de dix enfants. Elle a oublié l'amharique, ce qui rend ses relations avec ses parents éthiopiens difficiles, et pourtant elle est consciente de ses différences avec sa nouvelle famille. Banchiya doit faire face à des questions fondamentales d'identité et de double loyauté envers sa famille adoptive et ses origines ethniques. My Sister Banchiya tells the story of a ten year old Ethiopian child, Banchiya, who immigrated to Israel with her mother and three siblings seven years ago. Her father died while they were still in Ethiopia and her mother was run over by a truck in Israel. Banchiya and her older siblings were sent to an institution while their mother was in hospital. Avigail , who was doing her national service in that institution in Netanya, met Banchiya and soon began bringing her home to Jerusalem for Shabbat. A half a year later Banchiya's mother died and Avigail's family considered adopting her. After a period of trial and introspection , they decided that they wanted Banchiya to join the family. For the past six years Banchiya has lived with her new family in the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem. The film touches upon some of the challenges and difficulties arising in Banchiya's life as a black member of a white, orthodox Jewish community and as the only adopted child in a family of ten children. She has forgotten Amharic, which makes her relationships with her Ethiopian relatives difficult, and yet she is aware of her differences from her new family. Banchiya must struggle with basic questions of identity and dual loyalties to her adoptive family and ethnic origins.
